Shooting luxury watches is always a fantastic brief to get, but it’s a lot harder than many people think. There are a lot of factors to take into consideration, from the details that need to sing out on the design, to lighting and tricky reflections, but I’ve always enjoyed a challenge.

When Marcus Watches asked me to do a lifestyle shoot for their exquisite product range, we decided to do it during afternoon tea at the Mayfair Hotel, in Green Park. Luckily it was heavily overcast that day, so I could shoot all these watches using the naturally muted daylight, without any additional lighting. Product photography is a time consuming business at the best of times, but especially for jewellery and watches. Many of the set ups took over 30mins before I could begin pressing the shutter button, but thankfully the weather made sure this shoot didn’t fall foul of unpredictable glares and reflections. At least one Londoner was happy that the sun didn’t shine that day, and Marcus were delighted with the shots which have since formed the heart of a social media and advertising campaign.
